About Us

Welcome to GHARKUL
PARIVAR SANSTHA.

Established on 1st November 2006 to provide a secure home for mentally challenged girls / women, especially for those whose parents are unable to provide these facilities to them.

The parents of these ‘special girls’ are always in constant worry about the future of their daughter. ‘Who will look after my daughter after me?’ This nagging question always in the mind of parents.
“GHARKUL is the answer!”
These problems and worries were initially shared and discussed by many parents with Smt. Vidyatai Phadke who was working in this field for many years. After listening to these problems, Vidyatai deeply felt and resolved to do something for these girls & helpless parents. Vidyatai discussed these problems with friends like Vaidehi Deshpande, Sunita Adake and Dr. Shirish Sule. It was then decided to conduct a trial summer camp for these girls to test whether they stay without their parents or not. At the same time, management wanted to see all possible difficulties.
“Summer camp was a big success!!!”
The Industrialist Shri Maharajji Birmani gladly offered his bungalow for this purpose. During this one month, the girls conducted themselves very nicely. They were very happy as they got their pier group and opportunity to do different activities. The parents insisted for permanent arrangement on these lines. The idea of Gharkul emerged from it. Shri Maharajji Birmani has rendered valuable assistance for it.

“GHARKUL started residential home and works for the upliftment and rehabilitation of differently challenged girls.”

“GHARKUL is a home away from home for these girls.”

At present, there are 45 girls in Gharkul looked after by 22 ladies staff. It is the first organization in Maharashtra only for girls. There is love, affection, care, concern in Gharkul. These girls have routine activities with a schedule. They get different job trainings as per their capabilities. Moreover, they get friends to share their feelings. The organisation is run by women for women. For safety and security of inmates, this is the most important measure taken by Gharkul. The information about Gharkul is spread from parent to parent.
